Winter can be a challenging season for tenants, but with the right preparations, you can ensure a cozy and comfortable home.
Here are few essential tips to help you navigate the colder months.
Central Heating ( both Gas and Elctrical )
If you have a programmable thermostat use it to optimize heating efficiency.
Its important to regularly check and replace air filters to maintain air quality and proper functioning of heating system.
Base Board Heating ( both Electrical and Water )
Keep away paper and other flammable material from base board heaters.
Manually turn down individual thermostats of base board heaters, while you are away, to save on electric bills
Plumbing
Don't forget to protect pipes from freezing by letting faucets drip during extreme cold.
Don't use blow torch to unfreeze frozen pipes. Log service call with maintenance.
Slips and Falls
Make sure, you always salt and keep walkways clear of snow and ice to prevent slips and falls.
Your Auto Mobiles
Multi unit Tenants, make sure, you remove vehicles from the parking lot when the snow plough comes to clear the parking lot, otherwise you are responsible to clear snow between vehicles.
Always keep additional anti-freeze windshield fluid in your car
Always keep a snow brush ice scrapper in your car
Understand your responsibility as a Tenant
Teant's responsibility to keep walkways and paths always clear of snow and ice.
For a Multi Unit apartment, it's the responsibility of Property Management Company to keep the parking lot clear of snow, when there is reasonable amount of snow fall that will be cleared within reasonable time frames.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE : Many factors that are beyond the control of Property Management Company can influence your parking lot snow plough.

Log a service center request about any maintenance issues promptly to avoid larger problems later on.
Log a service center request if you notice any cold drafts from your windows and doors, so maintenance can seal leaks with weatherstripping.

Additionally, stock up on essential supplies like blankets, a flashlight, and non-perishable food items in case of severe winter weather and loss of power etc.
